Funeral policies
Funeral policies, explained before you sign
A funeral policy turns an unexpected bill into a small, predictable monthly one. We help individuals, families and groups in Atlantis and the Western Cape choose cover they can actually afford — and we make sure they understand what they are buying.
In a hurry?
Send us the number of people you want covered and what you can pay each month, and we will come back with options you can compare.
Who it's for
Three ways families and groups take cover
Individual cover
One person on the policy, with the option to add a spouse or dependants later. A good starting point if you are planning for yourself first.
- One monthly premium for one principal member
- Dependants can usually be added as the family grows
- Benefit paid to cover the funeral and related costs
Family cover
A household on one policy — the people you would expect to be included, listed so there is no argument about who was covered.
- Principal member, spouse and children on one schedule
- Extended family can often be added at a lower benefit
- One premium, one renewal, one place to check
Group & business cover
For stokvels, burial societies, church groups, taxis, shops and employers who want cover for a defined list of members or staff.
- Member lists handled and updated by the group
- Benefits can be tiered by member category
- Useful for employers who must offer funeral benefit
Benefit amounts, premiums, waiting periods and exclusions are set by the insurer and confirmed to you in writing before anything is signed. We do not decide those terms — our job is to make sure you have read and understood them.
Before you sign
Five questions to ask of any funeral policy
We will ask these on your behalf and put the answers in front of you. If a plan does not stand up to them, we will say so.
- 01What the monthly premium is, and what it will be at renewal
- 02The benefit amount actually paid out, and whether it covers transport or cross-border costs
- 03Any waiting period before a claim can be paid, and which deaths are exempt from it
- 04What is excluded — and how the policy handles deaths outside South Africa
- 05How a claim is made, who to call, and what documents the insurer will ask for
